Recommended Lightning Network Wallets

Lightning Network or LN is still in its infancy, but yet there are already a bunch of great applications available for both mobile and desktop.

In this guide, we will show you three Lightning Network wallets that we have picked and recommend using.

Note that some of these wallets are still running beta versions and could have bugs. We do not recommend leaving large amounts of Bitcoins in them. To learn more about Lightning Network click here and if you want to start using NiceHash Lightning Network click here.

NiceHash Wallet

The NiceHash wallet comes with support for the Lightning Network. It is available in a mobile version for both Android and iOS as well as on your desktop (browser), you just have to log in to your NiceHash account and navigate to Bitcoin wallet.

It supports advanced features like sending funds to static LNURL Pay Codes, sending funds to LN Addresses and sending funds to other wallets through LNURL Withdrawal. You can learn more about those features here.

The NiceHash wallet will establish payment channels automatically. That makes it easier to use since you are not required to create channels between you and the wallet you want to withdraw to.

It is worth noting that by using the NiceHash wallet, you get instant access to over 30 other cryptocurrencies that NiceHash Exchange supports. You can also exchange EUR to Bitcoin on NiceHash and this greatly simplifies Bitcoin everyday usage.

You can start using NiceHash wallet by creating a NiceHash account or by downloading the NiceHash App for Android or iOS.

Wallet of Satoshi

Wallet of Satoshi is the simplest and easiest to use mobile app that can be downloaded on both Android and iOS. This wallet is custodial, meaning it holds the private keys.

There is no need to create an account, your app acts as an account and stores data. You can sign up from inside the app to synchronize the data with your email account in case you lose your phone.

Another great thing about this app is that you are not required to set up channels with other nodes - the app will do that for you! Here are the video guides on how to deposit Bitcoin to NiceHash and how to withdraw out of NiceHash using the Wallet of Satoshi.

Breez

Breez is an open-source non-custodial mobile wallet for Android and iOS devices. Unlike the Wallet of Satoshi, Breeze does not store private keys for you.

Breez app has a simple layout and it is very intuitive to use. Breez allows merchants a simple way to start accepting Bitcoin payments, which is a big step toward Bitcoin mass adoption.

You have to set up channels on Lightning Network by yourself, whereas the Wallet of Satoshi does not require you to do that.

Zap

Zap is one of the rare applications that is available on all platforms - Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, and macOS.

Zap is open-source software that has over 70 contributions and is translated into 20 languages. Zap is also, just like Breeze, non-custodial. Meaning that at no point does anyone have access to your private keys beside you.

Same as Breez, you have to set up channels yourself. Creating channels is simple, all you need to do is to have some Bitcoins on your Zap wallet before opening a channel.

Summary

All of the above wallets are intended for a specific purpose. If you want to test Lightning Network and do a few transactions or if you want easy to use wallet then we recommend using Wallet of Satoshi. But note that Wallet of Satoshi is a custodial wallet.

If you want a complete control over your private keys, then Breez is what you should use. It runs both on Android and iOS.

If you plan to use the Lightning Network wallet on your Windows, Linux or macOS, then we suggest the Zap wallet. Zap also runs on Android and iOS devices.
