Over $500K Stolen From Ledger Connect Kit Library Breach

Ledger, a hardware wallet manufacturer, experienced a security breach, resulting in the theft of over $500,000 as reported on Etherscan's address page.

This breach occurred after a phishing attack compromised a former employee's account, leading to unauthorized access and modification of the Ledger Connect Kit Library. The attacker released compromised versions (1.1.5 to 1.1.7) that redirected funds to their wallet. Ledger quickly responded, releasing a secure update (version 1.1.8) and working with Walletconnect to neutralize the threat.

Tether has managed to freeze the attacker's wallet, containing $254K at the time of the report.

Crypto AML Provisions Dropped from U.S. Defence Bill

Two anti-money-laundering provisions related to cryptocurrencies were removed from the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), a key U.S. military-funding bill.

These provisions included establishing a standard for examining crypto assets for money laundering and a report on the use of privacy-enhancing technologies in cryptocurrencies.

The removal of these provisions from the NDAA, which typically includes various amendments, ends the attempt to pass these digital asset rules in the U.S. this year.

Turkey Prepares Crypto Legislation as Major Banks Dive into Digital Assets

Turkey is set to introduce new cryptocurrency legislation, with recent advancements in the sector despite regulatory uncertainties. Two major Turkish banks, Akbank and Garanti BBVA, are expanding into crypto, with Akbank acquiring crypto firm Stablex and Garanti BBVA launching a crypto wallet app.

This development occurs as Turkey ranks high in global crypto adoption and aims to address anti-money laundering and terrorist financing concerns to move off the Financial Action Task Force's "gray list".
