Latest Crypto News: NiceHash Digest #42

Welcome to the NiceHash crypto news digest. Let's see what happened these last few days.

Riot and MicroBT Partner To Bring ASIC Manufacturing To America

Riot Platforms, the largest public U.S. Bitcoin mining company, made a groundbreaking announcement regarding a partnership with Bitcoin ASIC manufacturer, MicroBT. The two major bitcoin companies will bring the production of MicroBT’s ASICs to America. The collaboration aims to secure miners for Riot's Corsicana Facility, significantly boosting the company's mining capabilities. Riot's Corsicana Facility is set to increase the company's capacity to around 1.6 GW.

ASIC miner manufacturing has traditionally been concentrated in China, but this new partnership with Riot strengthens the domestic supply chain in the United States and expands the domestic options available to Bitcoin miners. The collaboration between Riot and MicroBT will not only have a positive impact on the industry but also on local job creation. The machines will be manufactured by MicroBT at a new facility in Philidelphia in the United States, generating employment opportunities.

Bitcoin miners can also benefit from selling hashrate from their machines, to NiceHash marketplace, and get much higher earnings than mining to a pool.

Blackrock ETF Fuels Intstitutional Interest In Bitcoin Google Searches

Over the past 30 days, the popularity of the term “bitcoin” has surged significantly on Google Trends metrics, in part due to the increased interest from institutional investors who are keen to hear news of Blackrock's Bitcoin ETF (Exchange Traded Fund). Just a few days after Blackrock filed its spot bitcoin ETF application, the increase in Bitcoin searches increased dramatically.

Worth noting, that Slovenia was amongst the highest in bitcoin searches in the same period, coming in the top 5 bitcoin trends, likely due to the many local events and sponsorships where NiceHash has been investing in promoting bitcoin adoption to the population.

Bitmain S19 Miners Still Dominate the Bitcoin Mining Space But Competition Is Gaining Pace

Three models of Bitmain mining rigs account for 76% of computing power on the bitcoin network, according to new research published by Coinmetrics. The Antminer S19j Pro accounts for 34.3% of the network hashrate and the S19 for 28.1%, and they have been the most used machines on the network since March 2021. The Antminer S19 XP accounts for another 13.7% of the network hashrate.

In 2023, MicroBT has started taking on a much more serious share of future hashrate, with deals with Riot (above), and massive mining farm deals in Dubai, are testament to the increased competiton that Bitmain faces going forwards.
