Can I mine with AMD and NVIDIA GPUs at the same time?

In this blog post, we are going to talk about mining with two different chipset manufacturers and combining them into a single mining rig.

Generally speaking, you can run both NVIDIA and AMD cards on the same PC or rig. But keep in mind that you have to install two different drivers for both manufacturers and this is a potential stability issue that should be taken into consideration and avoided if possible. Note that some rigs might work without a problem for weeks or months with this kind of setup. But if you already had some experience with mining rigs, you might know that some rigs have different personalities and are often rebellious.

If you already own AMD and NVIDIA cards and still want to use them together we have prepared a short step-by-step instruction on how to install them. Follow these steps to install AMD and NVIDIA cards together.

Preparation:

  1. Download DDU here.
  2. Download correct NVIDIA drivers for your device here.
  3. Download correct AMD drivers for your device here.

Installing the GPUs:

  1. Once all the above files are downloaded, disconnect the rig from the Internet by removing the LAN cable.
  2. Open DDU and remove both AMD and NVIDIA drivers (note that you will have to remove one driver at the time).
  3. Shutdown the rig.
  4. Install both AMD and NVIDIA cards in the rig if not already installed.
  5. Turn the rig back on.
  6. Install either AMD or NVIDIA drivers and restart the rig.
  7. Install other drivers and restart the rig again.
  8. Plug back the LAN cable.

If you experience issues later, try to repeat the above steps as drivers could get auto-updated and this could cause issues.
